Hello! I thought I would take a minute and introduce myself. My name is Karyn and I am one of the “Bloom Girls”. I live in the beautiful state of Georgia just outside of the Atlanta area. I have a husband, children, stepchildren, foster children & fur children! My family puts the “fun” in dysfunctional! As you probably already read in the intro, there are two Bloom Girls and we are teaming up on this blog!
Why the “Bloom Girls?” (What the name means to me)
Bloom where you are planted! I can not tell you how many times my dear mother said this to me. She was referring to being content where I was and doing the best with what I had at that point in time. You have heard the old saying “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”. Same principle!
Have you ever been walking along a concrete sidewalk and noticed a stem or tiny delicate flowers squeezing their way through a crack? I always wonder how in the world it could have taken root there or how it could survive but, there it is, growing in the most unlikely place!
Sometimes, I feel like that tiny flower, all alone and growing through a crack in the sidewalk. I wonder why I am in a certain situation or what I am supposed to do but I believe God wants me to trust in Him every day and to know that He has my best interest at heart. When I trust God, it frees me up to have peace and joy despite my circumstances. (And believe me, I have had circumstances!) I can make the best of where I am and use my abilities to the fullest.
That tiny flower, growing through that crack does not have a gorgeous flower bed to sit in, or a human gardener that is tending to its needs. But there it is, blooming and thriving with God given sunlight and rain to nurture it. That flower did not decide to hold back its beauty because it was not where it wanted to be. But instead becomes something of unusual beauty because of its harsh surroundings.
Each day I have the choice to think positively and make the most of it, or I can be bitter or angry and actually be paralyzed by negativity. Focusing on some of my favorite things helps me a great deal in my quest to be positive. I am reminded of a verse in Philippians “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” 4.8
