Black & White is always right! – Corporate Dinner

Last Saturday night we hosted a dinner party for 17 people from my husband’s work. It was a mixture of fellow employees as well as customers who are all involved in the same project. I had to set two tables to handle the crowd! I set them entirely different since I did not have enough matching dishes for both tables.

I had everything planned out to the letter and of course, even the best laid plans go astray! The party was set to start at 6:00 PM but a group of guests showed up at 5:00 PM! I was kind of thrown off my groove and had to run upstairs to shower and dress before I was finished setting out the appetizers. (Or taking ANY pictures!) I had to re-create the tables to take pictures.

Please click on pictures to see in their entirety (Some of the pictures are showing only one half of the scene)

I wanted something that looked Corporate/Professional but would not be boring or incorporate any colors/elements that would be offensive to some of the (out of the country) guests. I chose the classic black, white and silver combination with champagne roses. table10 table2

The China is Mikasa Platinum and Glasses from Southern Living table3 table4

I alternated Silver and Black Placemats and Chargers as well as flatware. This is my solution to not having enough place settings of either and I think it makes it more interesting! table8table6

Napkin rings are from Pier One a few years agotable7

Champagne roses are a great addition to any table. They are very rich looking and compliment any color schemetable9

  7. I learned to stop two hours before my company comes and get myself ready even if it means my makeup and hair is a bit frazzled when I open the door. I find that people are so happy to be at someones home and not cooking themselves that they are happy no matter what. After a couple of drinks I don't think my guests would really care if I served them a hot dog or a steak:) Your table looks lovely and I am sure you were the hostess with the mostest:)

  22. Elegant! Your guests must have felt so special! I love the idea of mixing and matching, I think it makes a table more approachable somehow. I don't like table settings that are over-the-top as if you were going to a black-tie affair. This was perfection!
I'm stealing all your ideas! And where did you get your flatware?
    All the best,

  26. Very elegant -- you did a wonderful job.

I learned a long time ago that guests often arrive early -- I am showered and dressed an hour before they arrive -- I can do the little things "company ready" and I don't feel harried then if the company does arrive early!

  27. Bee-u-ti-ful!!

Yikes, guests arriving an hour early would send me over the top. I try to be ready a hour or two before my parties because most things take longer than planned...like the time it takes to get all the candles lit, the music on, etc. And, I like to have one glass of wine before everyone comes so I can feel calm.

    Hugs!

  28. Hi Karyn...what an elegant, beautiful table setting! I would have flipped out if a group of folks arrived an hour early...good gracious...what were they thinking! I would have put them to work as punishment for coming too soon. LOL! You sound like you handled that better than I would have. I did have a guest once arrive a full day early for a party...she was put to work...stuffing cloves into oranges. :-) Thanks for a sharing your beautiful tablescape!
